WEEK TWO WRITING

We have been doing some awesome writing about different celebrations and events. Today we focused on fireworks. Here are a few of them, but feel free to come and have a look at some of our other great writing in class.

Fireworks by Hamish

5 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 7 o'clock, 8 o'clock, 9 o'clock BANG! "Wow!" A sparkling, spitting, dancing firework soared up like a posh fountain that had just been unblocked. BOOM! Another flaming boulder, flung out of a catapult, streamed up into the vast, black sky like shooting stars.

The smell of candyfloss excites me.  People everywhere are waiting as they stuff their faces with unhealthy food.  Suddenly a deep voice starts to count down from ten. "10.9.8.7.6.5.4.3.2.1" BANG! The fireworks are blossoming flowers. Five fireworks fill the night sky. The trees whistle in the light breeze. My heart sinks like the Titanic. I move to the car quickly as the event finishes. People rush to the exit. Bumper to bumper traffic all the way home.

BANG! POP! CRACK! Sparks explode rainbowing colours into the dark, navy, night sky. Bright streaks swirl quickly like a cheetah racing across a jungle. Screams echo loudly. The popcorn is a salty, smooth sea. Wind jogs slowly across the darkened field. The grass is like a shiny wet day. Sparkling star like shapes pop and fizz loudly like a bottle of soda being shaken up.

The grounds are filled with people like a hive trying to feed their queen. We put the soft blanket down so delicately that even a million year old vase on it would not get broken. The fireworks suddenly burst into bright colours. It sounds like a million jaffas just fell on the hard floor. The twinkling stars change colour every time a firework bursts. The fireworks shoot up like a snake going to catch its prey. The changes are sudden- they don't slide into it slowly - sudden and strong. The sounds we hear are "Oooooh! Wow! Boom! and they go on forever. Dogs are sniffing.

"Are you ready?" boomed the speaker. We screamed back and the timer started ticking away. "3! 2! !1" WHOOSH! BANG! The fireworks screamed. The fireworks were gleaming stars exploding in the night sky then fading into the black of the night. Dogs were whimpering and whining as they ran quickly into their houses. People gazed in awe as the fireworks sped up into the night sky as fast as a cheetah. The explode into a rainbow of colours and shapes.

TERM 4 WEEK 1

What a great 1st week. We have been doing lots of testing and seeing great shift which is awesome. We are also enjoying swimming, athletics, concert practice and lots more fun. Have a great long weekend everyone after a busy week.

WEEK 8

We have started the week with a bang! We got out all the instruments today and used them to follow a beat using loud, quiet, fast and slow rhythms. It was lots of noisy fun.
We are also well on the way to completing our calendars. This is our big fundraiser with the money we raise going towards art materials for our Christmas crafts and end of year concert. The calendars are up in the Office window in Room 3.

WEEK 5 FUN

We have had lots of fun this week doing science experiments, learning about multiplication, designing new whanau logos and today creating dances to music from other countries and exploring the instruments and mood they create. Take a look at us at work.

WEEK 4 - AMAZING WRITERS

We have some amazing writers in Room 3. We have spent the first few weeks looking at how to use PASSAMOA to create a mood and describe a feeling. We think we have done a pretty good job. What do you think?

AFRAID BY MOLLY
Pitter! Patter! Pitter! Patter! The cold darkness swirled slowly around my head, hypnotizing me, as echoing mice scuttled around the room, distressed and frightened. Goose bumps crawled up my arms like blood sucking leeches and the swirling darkness pulled my eyelids open, threatening me to stay awake. I was huddled in my itchy, warm blanket as tickling cloaks mesmerised my mind as they echoed around the corners of my room. My eyes widened to the size of plates as my face turned ghostly white and pale. My goose bumps were the size of poisonous berries and as hard as a boulder that seals a cave. The looming, misbehaving shadows cackled outside my cold bedroom window as I smelt hot rotten air making it hard to breathe.

I am lining up to go on a rollercoaster and people are screaming. It’s my turn now. I am a bit scared. I can feel my red, smooth seat and I can hear “Click! Clack! Click! Clack!” I can see a loop that we are about to go around. My face starts to go pale like a ghost and my eyes are getting wider and wider as we get closer and closer. In my mouth I start to taste ucky vomit. The roller coaster is as big as a giant. On no! We are going around the terrible look. My tummy starts to feel sick. I cant wait to get off.

NERVOUS BY PHOEBE
Uh oh! The race is about to start. I am standing at the starting line ready to hear the clapper go bang. I have goose bumps all over me. I am shaking. My hairs are poking up. There’s lots of noise. Sadly, the bang goes. I start sprinting like wild horses galloping.

EXCITED BY ADRIANNA
As I was doing the most boring homework ever, Mum asked me to come to her. She said she wanted to tell me something. I had absolutely no idea what she wanted to talk to me about at first. I thought it was going to be about a new puppy. This really got me thinking.
“What the heck is squad?” and “What day would I do that on?” and I have another million questions. Once Mum explained it to me, I turned into a mix of kangaroo, bunny and frog. The floor was as bouncy as a trampoline and I was as excited as someone tasting the yummiest ice-cream in the world. I turned into a joyful jumping bean. I yelled with excitement.
I just wanted to tell the whole world. I felt like pressing random buttons on the phone and just saying “I’M IN SQUAD!!!” Not even saying Hi, or who I was.


SCARED BY JACQUIE
The dark gaping tunnel loomed up ahead of me ready to devour its next meal – me! It had swallowed everyone else whole and would do the same to me. I could feel goose bumps rising up over my entire body as I took a shaky step towards the roaring tunnel. It was time….I reached forwards for the solid metal bar and sat down. Suddenly, I realised that that bar was the only thing that was stopping me from sliding down into endless twists and turns. Then I let go. Darkness consumed me as different colours whizzed by me while I raced down the tunnel.


NERVOUS BY SOPHIE
Whoosh! The wind was wrapping around me like a rope getting tighter and tighter. I was going into a deep dark forest. There was dusty, rusty fog all around me. I was entering the dark, scary weta forest and I was as nervous as if a monster was chasing after me. The old, mouldy trees were bowing to one side like a dancing giraffe. While I limped through the forest it felt like people grabbing onto me. The butterflies in my tummy felt more like slimy, slithering snakes. As a slither went down my throat, I heard the branches snap and break.


AFRAID BY NOAH
My knees knock together as I creep quietly through the abandoned house. My hair stands on end as I notice the lights flicker on and then send out red sparks. My teeth chatter when I see the furniture turn over and doors rip off their hinges. There are gravestones all around the house.

The ground is as smooth as a piece of white paper. I have goose bumps on my arms. I am excited but I am scared too. I can hear people walking on the bright, black stage. Tap! Tap! People walk onto the stage. The stage is huge.



NERVOUS BY EMILY
“Oh no!” I thought as speeches began. My eyes were popping out of my head. I was shaking all over. When it was Aimee’s turn I nearly wet myself laughing but as my turn got closer my head was buzzing with thoughts. “Now it’s my turn!” I whispered to myself in terror. Sweat dripped down my forehead as I sat down. The air smelt of fear like people were watching a horror movie. My hands shook so hard I almost dropped the book. My heart was pounding like a gorilla thumping the ground.


AFRAID BY MIA
Rinnnnggggg! The bell has rung. Noooo!
As I walk into the classroom I stand still, petrified. My heart is thumping loudly and all the children are staring up at me. I can see the teacher smiling. I’m shaking all over. Goose bumps are appearing all over my body. How am I meant to find some new friends?
The classroom is really warm. I sit down at my desk. The desk is a type of red colour and the chairs are blue like the sky. Suddenly, before I know it, the bell rings. “Enjoyed your morning?” the teacher asks.


ANGRY BY ZAVANNAH
My brother makes me as angry as Anger off Inside Out. He talks way too much, probably as much as the television. “Vadim, go away and be annoying somewhere else and get out of my room.” I scream. He gets out very quickly. Some days he lies and tells Mum “Zavannah has been on the computer for 2 hours and I have not had a go.” He says that, but it was him on the computer for 2 hours and me for ten minutes. He wakes me up and rolls me off my bed. When my friends come over, he wants to sleep on the mattress by the bed – NO! NO! and NO! He makes me too angry! Even when my friends come over he hits, punches and slaps me. He makes me so angry.


NERVOUS BY DYLLIN
My throat was dry like the outside of a drink bottle. I was as fast as a cheetah. I had goose bumps all over me. I was shaking like the trees waving at me. I could see my top was yellow like the glimmering golden sun. I looked up and the sky was shining blue like the sky shining like the bright blue sea. Finally I reached the finish line.

NERVOUS BY VADIM
I am nervous because I am changing my life style. In two to three weeks I am moving to a farm. I have only ever lived in town.


                                          HAPPY BY REIDER
I am prancing in the yard, playing with my friends and riding the horses on a bright sunny day. I hear the birds tweet all day long. We are surprised. We lie in the grass happy and free just talking. Then we have some lunch. Then we roam free once again. We play some soccer. Sometimes it hears me. We stop playing. We have fun. Then we watch a movie on Netflix. Then we go to bed. Good night.


SCARED BY EDEN
It was nearly midnight. I woke up from a deep sleep. My heart was pounding faster and faster. I looked around. Something caught my eye – a shadow of a girl. I moved my dresser around. It moved across my room while everything else was statue still. My chair was rocking so I turned around to tell my Mum but my door started banging. I fell on the floor. “Wake up Eden” yelled Mum.

AFRAID BY LUKE
The lights turned off. I cried for my Parents. No reply. I was alone. Then as if it was meant to happen the doors closed themselves one by one. The lights flickered back on. I ran to the doors and struggled to open them. They were locked. I heard a blood curdling scream from upstairs then my Dad came walking in as if he was possessed. He said in a gloomy voice “Run!”


AFRAID BY ALEX

I’m afraid of you know what? -losing a game of fast football against  ‘quick feet’ Perry. The first time we beat his team they had a home team advantage. They said they had had an off day, but actually, I don’t believe that. The main thing is that Mr Quick feet was not playing. Next time we will play them at the Showgrounds. We have to beat them this time and conquer my fears.
