WEEK 5 FUN

We have had lots of fun this week doing science experiments, learning about multiplication, designing new whanau logos and today creating dances to music from other countries and exploring the instruments and mood they create. Take a look at us at work.

WEEK 4 - AMAZING WRITERS

We have some amazing writers in Room 3. We have spent the first few weeks looking at how to use PASSAMOA to create a mood and describe a feeling. We think we have done a pretty good job. What do you think?
Come and take a look in the classroom at our great display.
CONGRATULATIONS to Noah and Perry who gained their pen licence this week. Well deserved boys.

AFRAID BY MOLLY
Pitter! Patter! Pitter! Patter! The cold darkness swirled slowly around my head, hypnotizing me, as echoing mice scuttled around the room, distressed and frightened. Goose bumps crawled up my arms like blood sucking leeches and the swirling darkness pulled my eyelids open, threatening me to stay awake. I was huddled in my itchy, warm blanket as tickling cloaks mesmerised my mind as they echoed around the corners of my room. My eyes widened to the size of plates as my face turned ghostly white and pale. My goose bumps were the size of poisonous berries and as hard as a boulder that seals a cave. The looming, misbehaving shadows cackled outside my cold bedroom window as I smelt hot rotten air making it hard to breathe.

SCARED BY ELLA FORBES
I am lining up to go on a rollercoaster and people are screaming. It’s my turn now. I am a bit scared. I can feel my red, smooth seat and I can hear “Click! Clack! Click! Clack!” I can see a loop that we are about to go around. My face starts to go pale like a ghost and my eyes are getting wider and wider as we get closer and closer. In my mouth I start to taste ucky vomit. The roller coaster is as big as a giant. On no! We are going around the terrible look. My tummy starts to feel sick. I cant wait to get off.

NERVOUS BY PHOEBE
Uh oh! The race is about to start. I am standing at the starting line ready to hear the clapper go bang. I have goose bumps all over me. I am shaking. My hairs are poking up. There’s lots of noise. Sadly, the bang goes. I start sprinting like wild horses galloping.

EXCITED BY ADRIANNA
As I was doing the most boring homework ever, Mum asked me to come to her. She said she wanted to tell me something. I had absolutely no idea what she wanted to talk to me about at first. I thought it was going to be about a new puppy. This really got me thinking.
“What the heck is squad?” and “What day would I do that on?” and I have another million questions. Once Mum explained it to me, I turned into a mix of kangaroo, bunny and frog. The floor was as bouncy as a trampoline and I was as excited as someone tasting the yummiest ice-cream in the world. I turned into a joyful jumping bean. I yelled with excitement.
I just wanted to tell the whole world. I felt like pressing random buttons on the phone and just saying “I’M IN SQUAD!!!” Not even saying Hi, or who I was.

SCARED BY JACQUIE
The dark gaping tunnel loomed up ahead of me ready to devour its next meal – me! It had swallowed everyone else whole and would do the same to me. I could feel goose bumps rising up over my entire body as I took a shaky step towards the roaring tunnel. It was time….I reached forwards for the solid metal bar and sat down. Suddenly, I realised that that bar was the only thing that was stopping me from sliding down into endless twists and turns. Then I let go. Darkness consumed me as different colours whizzed by me while I raced down the tunnel.

NERVOUS BY SOPHIE
Whoosh! The wind was wrapping around me like a rope getting tighter and tighter. I was going into a deep dark forest. There was dusty, rusty fog all around me. I was entering the dark, scary weta forest and I was as nervous as if a monster was chasing after me. The old, mouldy trees were bowing to one side like a dancing giraffe. While I limped through the forest it felt like people grabbing onto me. The butterflies in my tummy felt more like slimy, slithering snakes. As a slither went down my throat, I heard the branches snap and break.

AFRAID BY NOAH
My knees knock together as I creep quietly through the abandoned house. My hair stands on end as I notice the lights flicker on and then send out red sparks. My teeth chatter when I see the furniture turn over and doors rip off their hinges. There are gravestones all around the house.

AFRAID BY ISABELLA
The ground is as smooth as a piece of white paper. I have goose bumps on my arms. I am excited but I am scared too. I can hear people walking on the bright, black stage. Tap! Tap! People walk onto the stage. The stage is huge.

NERVOUS BY EMILY
“Oh no!” I thought as speeches began. My eyes were popping out of my head. I was shaking all over. When it was Aimee’s turn I nearly wet myself laughing but as my turn got closer my head was buzzing with thoughts. “Now it’s my turn!” I whispered to myself in terror. Sweat dripped down my forehead as I sat down. The air smelt of fear like people were watching a horror movie. My hands shook so hard I almost dropped the book. My heart was pounding like a gorilla thumping the ground.

AFRAID BY MIA
Rinnnnggggg! The bell has rung. Noooo!
As I walk into the classroom I stand still, petrified. My heart is thumping loudly and all the children are staring up at me. I can see the teacher smiling. I’m shaking all over. Goose bumps are appearing all over my body. How am I meant to find some new friends?
The classroom is really warm. I sit down at my desk. The desk is a type of red colour and the chairs are blue like the sky. Suddenly, before I know it, the bell rings. “Enjoyed your morning?” the teacher asks.

ANGRY BY ZAVANNAH
My brother makes me as angry as Anger off Inside Out. He talks way too much, probably as much as the television. “Vadim, go away and be annoying somewhere else and get out of my room.” I scream. He gets out very quickly. Some days he lies and tells Mum “Zavannah has been on the computer for 2 hours and I have not had a go.” He says that, but it was him on the computer for 2 hours and me for ten minutes. He wakes me up and rolls me off my bed. When my friends come over, he wants to sleep on the mattress by the bed – NO! NO! and NO! He makes me too angry! Even when my friends come over he hits, punches and slaps me. He makes me so angry.

NERVOUS BY DYLLIN
My throat was dry like the outside of a drink bottle. I was as fast as a cheetah. I had goose bumps all over me. I was shaking like the trees waving at me. I could see my top was yellow like the glimmering golden sun. I looked up and the sky was shining blue like the sky shining like the bright blue sea. Finally I reached the finish line.

NERVOUS BY VADIM
I am nervous because I am changing my life style. In two to three weeks I am moving to a farm. I have only ever lived in town.

                                          HAPPY BY REIDER
I am prancing in the yard, playing with my friends and riding the horses on a bright sunny day. I hear the birds tweet all day long. We are surprised. We lie in the grass happy and free just talking. Then we have some lunch. Then we roam free once again. We play some soccer. Sometimes it hears me. We stop playing. We have fun. Then we watch a movie on Netflix. Then we go to bed. Good night.

SCARED BY EDEN
It was nearly midnight. I woke up from a deep sleep. My heart was pounding faster and faster. I looked around. Something caught my eye – a shadow of a girl. I moved my dresser around. It moved across my room while everything else was statue still. My chair was rocking so I turned around to tell my Mum but my door started banging. I fell on the floor. “Wake up Eden” yelled Mum.

AFRAID BY LUKE
The lights turned off. I cried for my Parents. No reply. I was alone. Then as if it was meant to happen the doors closed themselves one by one. The lights flickered back on. I ran to the doors and struggled to open them. They were locked. I heard a blood curdling scream from upstairs then my Dad came walking in as if he was possessed. He said in a gloomy voice “Run!”

AFRAID BY ALEX

I’m afraid of you know what? -losing a game of fast football against  ‘quick feet’ Perry. The first time we beat his team they had a home team advantage. They said they had had an off day, but actually, I don’t believe that. The main thing is that Mr Quick feet was not playing. Next time we will play them at the Showgrounds. We have to beat them this time and conquer my fears.

WEEK 3

Week 3 has started really well. Today we looked at our writing on feelings to see how well we are going with our Success Criteria goals. We used the laptops to publish our best descriptions and then illustrated them ready for display in the classroom. Look out later in the week to see them on the blog too.
We have some great readers in Room 3 so we used these skills to read some of the class novel to the class. This is a good way to practice having a nice loud, clear voice and use our expression.
We have our personal goals for the term on display in the classroom. Come and have a look.
Well done team!

WEEK 2

We have had another busy week. Preparations for the Kapa Haka are stepping up a gear and costumes are being organised. We got the instruments out earlier in the week and had lots of noisy fun exploring how to record a rhythm on paper and to perform together.
We had a special visit from WBHS and some football coaches on Friday as well.
